Modelling powder compaction with consideration of a deep grooved punch

In this work a modelling approach for predicting density distribution in the vicinity of two facing grooves on parallelepiped compact surface, is developed and results are validated using X-ray tomography. An experimental hybrid procedure proposed to calibrate Drucker-Prager Cap model material parameters which numerically considered FEM compaction simulation grooved specimen Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian method (ALE). Results predicted show high values under groove low its flanks shoulders. Similar findings were observed literature. Additionally, strong gradient between validated, demonstrating that calibrated achieved good agreements with measurements. The calibration could be used other shape size die not benefiting from radial instrumentation. Moreover, ALE demonstrated robustness solving powder presence mesh distortions.
